Bead Fest Santa Fe is a four-day extravaganza for folks who love everything related to jewelry. There are hands-on workshops in a variety of jewelry-making techniques and a marketplace offering a wide selection of jewelry components and tools.
The Bead Fest Expo takes place from March 24 through 26 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center and displays products from 70 vendors selling everything from silver, brass, shells, stamps and templates to art yarn, findings and buttons. Beads are the star of the show. Expect to see a vast array of new and old glass, enamel, stone, copper and seed beads.
“Some of the vendors sell finished products for people who are shopping for jewelry,” explains Bead Fest’s event sales manager Dana Graves.
Workshops for novice through expert jewelry makers begin on March 23 and are held at both the Convention Center and the Drury Plaza Hotel. Participants can learn how to rivet domed metal, pick and set cabochons, carve and whittle, drill glass and metal, fabricate a box clasp and apply enameled mosaic tiles to metal as well as learn many other jewelry-making techniques from experts in their fields.
Among the instructors offering workshops are award-winning jeweler and author Kaska Firor, award-winning self-taught metalsmith and author Nancy Lee, award-winning metal clay artist Donna Lewis and award-winning bead artist Heidi Kummli.
