Paige Pinnell (1944-2017) was not only a photographer but also an educator and art collector. Obscura Gallery pays tribute to PInnell’s artistic legacy by opening a show of his work on January 11.
Pinnell earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967 from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and a master of fine arts degree in 1971 from the University of New Mexico. During his long and illustrious career, Pinnell taught photography at the University of Florida and was a curator at the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe.
Gallery owner Jennifer Schlesinger says about Pinnell’s impact on the photographic community in Santa Fe, “Paige’s deep knowledge of and connection to photography on a national level had influence on many in the local Santa Fe community in the 1960-70’s and was integral to what would become the development of the photography market in Santa Fe at that time.”
