“Photo Unrealism-Altered Female Reality” is Steven Snyder’s new show of mixed media works opening at 7Arts Gallery on January 11. The exhibit includes Snyder’s most recent paintings using collaged material from vintage and current fashion magazines as well as retro photographs that have been painted over.
The female face, sometimes dark and other times playful, has been the principle subject matter of Snyder’s work for the past four years. Synder focuses on the impact of both fashion and the use of makeup to define our perception of what constitutes the feminine.
“This show is very deep and personal for me because makeup and fashion are my tools used to change the perception of my own male face and body to female, which is my transgender identity,” says Snyder.
