Santa Fe Pro Musica presents the award-winning Cuarteto Casals in a special concert at St. Francis Auditorium on February 24. On the program are pieces by Haydn, Bartok, Purcell and Debussy.
The Cuarteto Casals, which was founded in 1997 at the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain, enjoys performing a wide range of pieces. Audience members get a chance to hear everything from works by lesser-known Spanish composers to standards in the string quartet repertoire.
In 2018 the quartet recorded the first of a three-volume recording of the Beethoven quartets. The second set will be released this year, while the final set is scheduled for 2020.
The Cuarteto Casals has performed in major concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Philharmonie Cologne in Germany, Cité de la Musique Paris in France and Concertgebouw Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Currently, it’s the quartet-in-residence at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelona.
