A former member of Ricky Skaggs’s Grammy-winning band Kentucky Thunder, Scott Mulvahill is touring to promote his September 2018 release “Top of the Stairs (EP).” AMP Concerts presents Muvahill on April 25 at GIG Performance Space.
It was during the time he toured with Skaggs that Mulvahill started writing his own songs on his upright bass.
“I tried to make the bass parts complete arrangements with harmony and rhythm, and weave my melodies between all that,” says Mulvahill on his website. “The first song I wrote that way was ‘Fighting for the Wrong Side.’ I was finally bringing all of my varied skills to the table and doing something that few others could, and it was where I felt I could give my best to the music.”
Mulvahill’s tunes have been honored or featured in NPR’S Tiny Desk Contest, the International Songwriting Competition, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the American Songwriter Magazine’s 30th Anniversary Contest.
