A former member of Ricky Skaggs’s Grammy-winning band Kentucky Thunder, Scott Mulvahill is touring to promote his September 2018 release “Top of the Stairs (EP).” AMP Concerts presents Muvahill on April 25 at GIG Performance Space.

It was during the time he toured with Skaggs that Mulvahill started writing his own songs on his upright bass.  [Read More…]

Dwight Loop’s No Compromise! 2019 series continues with a presentation of Gamelan Encantada on April 14 at Paradiso.

A percussion ensemble based in Albuquerque, Gamelan Encantada has musical roots in the gong and metallophone orchestras of Southeast Asia. The ensemble presents traditional Javanese music. Dwight Loop has had a lifelong interest in electronic and experimental music.

He expresses his passion through writing original compositions, playing with his trio The Rampant Egos, broadcasting radio shows and presenting musical acts at Paradiso through his new No Compromise! 2019 series of concerts.

The award-winning Elias String Quartet, which takes its name from Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah,” performs on March 31 in St. Francis Auditorium as the guest of Santa Fe Pro Musica.

On the program are two classic works-Schubert’s “Quartet in A Minor, D. 804” and Schumann’s “Quartet in A Minor, Op. 41, No. 1”- as well as Sally Beamish’s new work “String Quartet No. 4, Nine Fragments.” [Read More…]

Fairy Tales, Brought to Musical Life Two works by composer Hannah Lash are presented at SITE Santa Fe

Two of composer Hannah Lash’s works, “Stoned Prince” and “The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep,” are performed at SITE Santa Fe when Lash and the chamber ensemble loadbang come to town on April 13.

While “Stoned Prince,” which was written in 2013, has received a number of performances, “The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep” enjoys its world premiere.

“Stoned Prince” was the first collaboration I did with loadbang,” says Lash, who is also a harpist playing during the concert. [Read More…]
