Stan Berning, an author, teacher and former gallery owner who has been a painter in Santa Fe since 1981, displays a group of new large oil paintings at his space Art Box (54 1/2 E. San Francisco St.) in a show that opens at 5 p.m. on October 19 and runs through Dec. 30. Berning says about his work, “Painting has become for me a balance between the inertial thrust of ideas and the subliminal nature of the aesthetic impulse. I have strived to create work that resonates with the viewer subliminally through the use of color and form.”
For more than two decades, Margaret Burke has been an integral part of Santa Fe’s music scene. A vocalist, bass player and guitarist who has played with many talented musicians through the years, Burke recently recorded a new album at Kitchen Sink Studios. Her concert at 7:30 p.m. on October 20 at GIG Performance Space (1808 Second St. Suite H) celebrates this project and also features musicians Sharon Gilchrist and Josh Martin.
